Fostering Support for Economic Equality

New work from Postdoc Efraín García-Sánchez and colleagues shows how highlighting the everyday consequences of income disparities matters.

People often justify income disparities. New research from Economic Mobility Fellow Efraín García-Sánchez and colleagues finds that emphasizing the connection between income disparities and inequalities in education and healthcare (e.g., access to college or medical treatments) decreases acceptance of economic inequality. It also increases their support for redistributive policies and collective action. By highlighting the everyday consequences of income disparities, this work spotlights a new potential intervention to gain support to reduce economic inequality.
