Team members Maneeza Dawood and Mikaela Spruill and affiliates Ronda Lo (Toronto Met) and Camilla Griffiths (BLIS Collective) presented new research at a Society for Experimental Social Psychology (SESP) 2026 symposium about racial representation in media and implications for social change.

The work they shared explored topics including how viewers engage with TV shows with diverse content, how portrayals of racial status viewer attitudes and perceptions of racial progress, and how historical narratives that highlight shared hardships between groups can increase support for reparative justice policies. This work highlights how media is a powerful cultural tool that can be leveraged for social change.
