How Does Socioeconomic Status Influence Partisan Voting Behavior in Different Ways?

Research from Efraín García-Sánchez and colleagues uncovers the different motivations for conservative voting across SES.

New research from Postdoc Fellow Efraín García-Sánchez and colleagues uses large-scale data from 9 European countries to investigate how partisan voting is impacted differently by socioeconomic status (SES). Conservative voting, for instance, is driven by cultural threats like immigration for lower SES people and concerns about preserving the economic status quo for higher SES people. These nuances in voting motivations by SES can help researchers, politicians, and policymakers better understand conservative political dynamics.
