SPARQ Seeks a Lab Manager

Overview

Reporting to the executive director of SPARQ, the lab manager will work with SPARQ staff, faculty affiliates, and practitioner-partners to support social psychological research that both creates new knowledge and solves social problems. Ongoing projects include: Respectful Policing, a partnership to improve officer-citizen interactions; Space Reface, a partnership with the Stanford engineering and computer science departments to design physical spaces that promote belonging for women and people of color; and Barriers to Economic Agency, a partnership with the World Bank to boost economic interventions with cultural insights.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing undergraduate research assistants

  • Scheduling and coordinating project meetings

  • Designing and running studies, including recruiting and paying participants

  • Contributing original content to SPARQ online toolkits, websites, and social media channels

  • Preparing data for statistical analysis

  • Conducting literature reviews

  • Assisting in manuscript preparation

  • Ordering and maintaining equipment and supplies

  • Assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations for funders and partners

 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field

  • At least one year of research experience in an experimental psychology lab

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent written, spoken, and visual communication skills

  • Conscientious, organized, and detail-oriented

  • Able to solve problems quickly and efficiently

 

Additional desirable qualifications:

  • Experience in journalism, social media, and other mass communications

  • Experience with computer programming and Web design

  • Experience with Qualtrics, SPSS, R, QSR/NVivo, or other research software

  • Interest in cross-cultural psychology, social class, health, education, economic development, criminal justice, and related areas

  • Knowledge of other cultures

  • Interest in pursuing a PhD in social psychology or other social science field
